Elite Hockey Academy’s Squirt team capped off an outstanding season in style, defeating Mid-Fairfield 5-1 to claim the CHC Tier 2 State Championship.
Elite struck first late in the opening period when Nico Porto found the back of the net with 5:53 remaining in the first, giving Elite a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.
In the second period, Elite began to pull away. Brody Garceau extended the lead with a big goal to make it 2-0. Mid-Fairfield responded quickly, scoring just 33 seconds later to cut the deficit to 2-1 and bring the game back within reach.
Elite answered right back. With 2:29 remaining in the second period, Harrison Onofrio restored the two-goal advantage, finishing a play assisted by Gabriella Jenei. Less than two minutes later, Jackson Cain added another, scoring with just 54 seconds left in the period on a feed from Nico Porto to give Elite a commanding 4-1 lead heading into the final frame.
In the third period, Elite sealed the championship. Jackson Cain scored his second goal of the game with 8:50 remaining, assisted by Nico Porto and Brody Garceau, putting the finishing touch on a dominant 5-1 victory.
The win caps off a tremendous season for the Elite Hockey Academy Squirts, whose hard work, development, and teamwork throughout the year culminated in a well-earned state championship.
