Guilford, Conn.,. – The first annual “PINK IN THE RINK” fundraiser was held on Saturday night October 29th at the Northford Ice Pavilion.  The support received from our organization, players, family members and the community helped raise over $5,000 for the Breast Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital.

In front of an electric crowd, the 18U Academy team wore custom pink jerseys and socks, especially made for this event.  The inside of the rink was filled with pink-shirted attendees, and prior to the game, the players of the 18U Elite Hockey Academy team, along with members of the youngest Elite 2013 team, began the celebratory night on the blue line while Branford High School resident, Matthew Law, sang the National Anthem.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to have been part of EHA's Pink the Rink event. I loved seeing our program continue to make a positive impact on those fighting in more than hockey in our community.” Said, 18U Captain Brenden Leung

The ceremony continued as the arena celebrated Mrs. Harriett Walter.  Mrs. Walter is currently a 10-year cancer survivor and was honored to drop the ceremonial game puck.  She is also the grandmother of one of our 2012 Squirt Major team players, Brayden Alexander.  “Brayden was my driving force and strength to beat this disease”, said Mrs. Walter.

“The game was special for all of us involved, the community really came together.  It makes you stop for a second and realize there is a lot more going on around you and how an event like this can make such an impact.”

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer.  Together, people across the world spread the word about the importance of breast cancer screenings.  Each of us has been affected by cancer, whether it is Breast Cancer or another form.
