Gary Claps, 16U Elite Hockey Program
2002 Forward

Guilford, Connecticut - Claps had a breakout weekend at the Beantown Fall Classic against high level competition, leading the Elite Hockey Program to a record of 4-1-1 and an appearance in the semi-finals at the Beantown Fall Classic.   The Beantown Classic was held at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, MA that had over 160 scouts in attendance from NHL, NCAA DI/III, Junior, Prep and more!

The 16U forward opened the scoring in Friday’s 4-1 win over the Jr Bruins by working around a defender in the slot and burying a shot for his second goal of the game.  Claps then closed the game out on Saturday by contributing the game winning goal vs the Islanders Hockey Club in the 2-1 win.  Claps continued to be a difference maker throughout the tournament as he blasted home a goal vs Newbridge Academy in the quarter final to help build momentum for the 16U team in their 2-1 overtime win.  He finished the weekend with five points - four goals and one assist.

Interview with Gary Claps:

How has your season been with the Elite Hockey Program?

  • “I love it here. Just everything about it, the hockey, all the boys here. It's just a lot of fun.”

What are your goals to keep improving this season?

  • “I think being happy but never satisfied and just keep getting better everyday….Just leading by example and doing the little things a little bit better and always playing hard. I know Coach Alden and Crandall are always getting on us about playing the right way, honesty and focusing on the finer details and stuff like that, so that's definitely something that I can always work on.”
