Guilford, Conn., - Around 100 teddy bears were collected for the local Toy Closet Yale New Haven Children's Hospital during the Elite Hockey Academy 6-3 home win over the Norwich Free Academy, Monday night at the 1st annual Teddy Bear Toss.
After an uneventful first 10 minutes, Sam Tayloe gave the fans what they wanted –with a slap shot goal from the high slot and a reason to throw their teddy bears!
The bears hit the ice when Sam Tayloe opened the scoring 12:52 into the first period, and were picked up by the EHA 2011 Pee Wee Major team.
"We had such a great turn out for the Family Public Skate and the Teddy Bear Toss game. It is important to show the strength of our organization and a wonderful time of the year for people to come together to support a great cause." Said Terri Tamulevich
Once the stuffies had been cleaned up, the 18U Academy Varsity team took control of the game and went on a tear scoring 5 more goals in the first half, by Ethan Bellamy, Platon Krasnoiarov, Caleb North, Zach Staenz and Valters Budenieks.
In the second half of the game Tyler Picha came up big for the Academy team and into penalty trouble, as Norwich closed the gap scoring three goals in the third. Picha was able to stand tall and turn away 19 shots to lead the team to victory!
It was an exciting evening with well over 200 hundred people in attendance, including a special visit from Santa Clause during our "Family Public Skate".
