Guilford, Conn., - For the first time in program history, the Elite Hockey Academy has won the ECC College Cup at both the 18U and 16U Tier 1 levels, this past weekend, October 13-15, 2023 in Northford, Connecticut.
EHA was dominant all weekend long. As the teams went 9-0-1 overall and scored a combined 42 goals throughout the ten games they played over the weekend. The 18U and 16U Academy teams faced opponents from Canada, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and more!
“It was a great feeling,” 18U Defender Tristan St. Gelais said. As a team we played as we should have played, we stood up for each other and didn’t give up. We deserved to win the championship, we wanted it more. Everyone played their part and our goaltending kept us in it, we capitalized on our chances and gave them very few."
The 18U team went 5-0 in tournament play and beat the York Skipjacks Academy 2-1 in the Championship game. The 16U team went 4-0-1 over the weekend, defeating the Hartford Jr WolfPack 5-4 in the championship game.
16U Defender, Quinlan Parry said, It was a step in the right direction. Winning this tournament brings us confidence in our team. If we work hard and play the right way, we will be feared by many opponents!"
Another factor that was huge this past weekend is that both teams were able to play in their home arena in Connecticut. Program Director and Coach, Peter Alden believes that this added to the excitement of the tournament. “I think anytime you play at home in front of your family and friends, it gives you a little bit of added motivation,” explained Alden. You want to show off some program pride, and showcase your abilities as a team in front of the home crowd."
After a few years of being close to capturing league titles and Regional appearances, EHA is really taking a big step to continue building the Elite Hockey Academy at Notre Dame. “We are heading in the right direction, we had our first NHL draft pick in 2023, and now with the teams winning consecutive tournaments this fall, I’m excited for the future of EHA as we are proud of developing and advancing our student athletes in the classroom and on the ice." Added Alden
Both Academy teams continue action this weekend as the 18U Academy hosts Rice Memorial Prep this Friday in East Haven at 5:00 PM and the 16U Academy will hit the road vs top ranked Seacoast Spartans in New Hampshire.
