Guilford, Conn., - The Elite Hockey Academy is hosting a Skate for a Cure-Friends and Family Skate event to benefit the non-profit organization of Cure Rare Disease and local Branford resident, Max Herzog. The event will be held on Saturday, November 6th, Northford Ice Pavilion, at 5:45 PM. Following the Skate, stay and watch the local rivalry and top- ranking game between the Elite Hockey Academy Premier 18U v. Yale Junior Bulldog 18U National teams. The Skate will raise money to support research needed to develop life-saving-cures, and promises to be an amazing opportunity to come together as a community and organization, to support a local family.
Max is a six-year-old with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy-a disease in which a gene responsible for regenerating muscles has been compromised, interfering with normal childhood muscle development. Over time, Duchenne patients weaken and eventually lose the ability to walk. Max will begin gene treatment in 2022.
“We’re super excited and honored to be partners with Elite Hockey Academy for a Skate for a Cure event. This event as well as Elite Hockey’s continued support and commitment to Cure Rare Disease is helping pave the way to a Cure for Max and all the other families affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy…we can’t thank Elite and the Alden Family enough,” said Jesse Herzog, Max’s dad.
Peter Alden, President of Elite Hockey Academy, is a friend and neighbor of the Herzog family.
"We are honored, as a growing organization, that we are able to host this event,” Alden said in a statement. “This is just a small way we can give back to the community and support a great cause.”
