The Elite Hockey Academy Exposure Combine kicked off today with multiple on-ice practices, off-ice training sessions, and informational seminars. The Exposure Combine is a great opportunity for the coaches to not only evaluate the talent, but also educate them on what it takes to be a high level player on and off the ice in regards to training, nutrition, habits, fundamentals, etc.

Today's practices started with skating, passing and shooting fundamentals that also incorporated competitive small-area games. Both sessions today touched on many on-ice skills, but the afternoon sessions primarily honed in on position specific skills.  The coaches split the players in half of the ice. A skills-specific session in which the forwards and defensemen split into separate halves of the ice and work on the finer points of their position-specific skills. During these sessions, proper playing habits are emphasized in each of the station-based drills.

All of the goaltenders that attended today's camp had the great opportunity to work with a highly regarded coach, Phil Osaer, Head of Goaltending Scouting and Development for the Detroit Redwings NHL.

There were eight total on-ice sessions today ran by coaches from the NHL, NCAA, Junior A and Prep School levels.

Today's coaches included;

  • John Riley (Philadelphia Flyers- NHL)
  • Phil Osaer (Detroit Red Wings, NHL)
  • Mike Levine (Vegas Golden Knights, NHL)
  • Peter Alden (Elite Hockey Academy)
  • Tim Joncas (Westminster School),
  • Jim Henkel (CT Junior Rangers - NCDC),

  • Dan Bogdan (Elite Hockey Academy)
  • Jack Fitzgerald (Amherst College - NCAA III)
  • Peter Gintoli (Elite Hockey Academy)

Following the practices, the teams gathered for a presentation directed by Ray Diffley.  He spoke on the following...

  • How self assessment and reflection are the foundation of leadership or for short: "The foundation of leadership"
  • "The two buckets of character: Moral and Performance"
  • "Revealed the two key questions every athlete  and applicant to schools needs to know... and have answers to"
