2019 Winter Deaflympics

December 26, 2019

Guilford, Conn.- Elite Hockey Program Coach Peter Gintoli is a World Champion as he captained the U.S. National Deaf Hockey Team to a Gold Medal in the 2019 Winter Deaflympics in Italy on December 21.

Peter Gintoli has been a part of the U.S. National Deaf Hockey Team for the last decade. From an article in the Shelton Herald, Gintoli believes that the best part of the tournament stems from the opportunity to represent your country. “I think the best part, personally, is representing your country,” Peter explained. “There are so many countries involved and so much talent. The pride shines from everyone.”

To advance to the gold medal game, the USA had to beat mighty Russians in the semi-finals. During the game, Gintoli scored two goals in the second period to put the US up 4-1 en route to a 7-3 victory – the first against the Russians in 20 years at the Deaflympics.

Gintoli has been a part of the Elite Hockey Program as a coach for a few years now. President Peter Alden added, “We are so happy for Peter, his brother Garrett and team USA. Gintoli is a great leader and having the opportunity to play for your country and lead his team to the gold medal speaks volumes about his character and ability to win in life. We are very grateful that he is a part of our program and the impact he can make on our players from his own experience.”

This Gold Medal is the second medal he has won at the Deaflympics, having already won a Bronze Medal in 2015. He also won a gold medal at the World Championships in 2017. From all of us at the program, we are so happy for Peter on this accomplishment.
