EHP College Combine Day 2 Recap

Northford, Conn., - Things were in full swing at the Northford Ice Pavilion today for day two of the EHP College Combine! Mike Bouchard continued to work with players on their off-ice conditioning. The players engaged in intense circuit training exercises and coach Bouchard focused on building better eating habits and making good choices to fuel their body for a more productive outcome.

The players started the day with practices being run by John Rose (Dartmouth College), Paul Kirtland (Sacred Heart University), Bennett Hambrook (Hamilton College), and Dan Bogdan (Kenai River Brown Bears). The coaches had the players focusing on transitions, offensive entries and puck support. Coach Kirtland introduced a neutral zone drill, working on quick small area passes, transition and offensive attacks. Coach Hambrook followed up with a high intensity passing drill that involved a 2 on 0 and got the players playing at a really high pace. The practice concluded with small area games and Coach John Rose reiterated a strong message to the players on goal scoring and how it relates to getting to the puck and driving the net with sticks on the ice.

For the seminar of the day, we had a special guest, Mike Levine, who is a scout for the Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL. Levine was very insightful for the players as he provided his professional advice to the players on development, recruiting and what it takes to be an elite level player, on and off the ice. He also gave some good tips on what players should be doing for self-advocacy, to start the recruiting process at the NCAA level. It was also intriguing for the players to hear what scouts are looking for when evaluating players. He explained what players can do to work on their game and how they can stand out to scouts at the next level.

We have attempted to set a high bar for the players, and we look forward to helping them achieve their goals on and off the ice. Tomorrow is another big day with a new set of coaches from the NCAA levels and beyond. The boys will get some rest and be ready to hit the ice in the morning.
