Position:

Associate Head Coach of Elite Hockey Program 18U/16U Midget Ice Hockey teams & Associate Director of the Elite Prep Academy.  Assist in all aspects of the team and classroom including coaching, motivating, mentoring, recruiting, program administration, monitor completion of assignments and providing academic guidance.

  • Education/Skills Requirements:

A high school diploma is required; Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. Required skills include: Knowledge of ice hockey skills and strategy and the ability to effectively teach them; ability to motivate and effectively communicate with young student-athletes; willingness and ability to actively recruit qualified candidates to Elite Hockey Program; commitment to being a positive member of the organization, the Elite Prep Academy School, community, and the ability to influence his athletes to do the same.
Administrative skills such as prioritization and organization are needed. The coach/teacher must be self-directed and motivated and be able to work independently in a stressful environment. A valid driver’s license, teaching background, USA Hockey CEP and ability to meet the standards of Elite Hockey Program Policies are required.

  • Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents**:

Significant experience with Men’s Ice Hockey, as a player at the college level or as a coach at the secondary level or above, is strongly preferred.  Experience in teaching and/or facilitating online courses.  The online platform that is used in the Elite Prep Academy is Odysseyware Academy.

  • Standard Work Days and Hours**:

Coaches are expected to be coaching during the hockey season (late August to April 1, 2020) during all practice and game times, generally held between the hours of 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Saturday and Sunday. Practice hours vary in length depending on off-ice training and scheduled video meetings. Game are consistently held on a Friday (Showcases only), Saturday and Sunday. Several overnight trips with student athletes are required during the hockey season. In the off season and summer, it is expected that coaches will assist the head coach in recruiting at regional and national tournaments and camps.

Teachers are expected to be in classroom working with the students during both academic terms September 3 – April 1, 2020.   Hours of operation will be generally held Monday to Friday, during the hours 11:00 am- 4:00 PM. 

This position may require additional assigned duties such as host family check-ins, study hall duty or as needed. 

Additional travel is required during in season and will be delegated accordingly. Occasionally it is requested by the Director of Elite Hockey Program that we attend various school events, these are advised and at times required.

Teaching - Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of working in an online classroom environment.
  • Superior writing, grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax and proofreading skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Monitoring discussion boards and responding to student comments
  • Presence in the online classroom a MINIMUM of 5 days per week Monday – Friday 11:00-4:00 PM.
  • Contribute to the course content using current events, current research articles, videos and other materials
  • Monitor completion of assignments in the given subject area
  • Communicate with Advisory teachers and school counselors; report student issues and coordinate communication schedules
  • Provide struggling students (and parents) with alternate strategies and additional assistance
